MELVYN

December 6, 2006

MELVYN On December 2, 2006 Doreen Agnes Melvyn (Williamson) passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 65. She was born on July 5, 1941 in Valleyview, Alberta and was the second youngest of six children born to David and Ethel Williamson. Doreen married Michael on July 7, 1959 and they had four children.: Murray of Lacombe, Rita of Airdrie, Brian (Tara) of Red Deer and Duane of Devon. She was blessed with four grandchildren: Jordan, Robyn, Tyler and Christopher. She is survived by sisters Shirley (Don) Penson and Dorothy (Corney) Friesen and two brothers Alex (Audrey) and David (Sandy) Williamson, including many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Leona who passed away in 1994. Doreen, most of all, loved spending time with her family but also enjoyed painting, being creative through her many crafts, building projects and could spend hours in the garden. Doreen worked for the Ponoka Hospital and the Calgary Board of Education spending hours of time, energy and support to children with disabilities. The children loved & adored this kind and gentle "Grandma" figure in their school. Doreen was rewarded by many loving thank you letters and expressive drawings from the children she gave so much to. She lived her life with high integrity and a great strength that is not obtained by many. She will always be remembered for her courage to persevere through any challenge in her life and the loving dedication she showed her family. She will be terribly missed but never forgotten. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 8, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ponoka Funeral Home, 5115 - 50th Avenue, Ponoka. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff and volunteers at the Red Deer Hospice Society, Red Deer Hospital Unit 32 and Dr. Elliot for the loving care she received. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations are gratefully accepted to The Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, AB T4R 3S6.
