BRANDON

Mervin Albert

1937 - 2014

Our Dad and Poppa passed away on December 13, 2014 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary at the age of 77. He was predeceased by our Mom, Beverley, his parents Albert and Muriel Brandon, brother-in-laws Terry Quinn, Dennis Walline and Bill Olstead, and nephew Norman Whatmore. He was Poppa to seven grandchildren, Kelsey and Tyler Brandon, Rebekah and Scott Steneker, Curtis (Jessica), Cody and Tanya Brandon and two great-grandchildren Hayden and Andre. He is survived by his two sisters Bernice (Ken) Rind of Calgary, Alberta and Eileen Olstead of Edmonton, Alberta and sister-in-laws Ramona Quinn of Frobisher, Saskatchewan and Margaret (Wayne) Whatmore of Whitecourt, Alberta. After graduating from Brandon University with a teaching degree and marrying our Mom, our Dad with our Mom moved to Bentley Alberta in 1960. Dad initially taught in the Bentley High School and later the Lacombe Composite High School. Over the years we have met many of Mr. Brandon's students who always comment on how much they liked him. After retirement he enjoyed doing part-time accounting work with the Tweit family of Lacombe County. Dad was active in the Bentley community and particularly with the Bentley Elks and the United Church. He enjoyed trips south with our mom, golfing, curling and of course the Saskatchewan Rough Riders. Dad moved to the Red Woods retirement home when our mom became ill last year. We are very proud of how he rose to the challenge of moving to Red Deer, living alone and making new friends after our mom's passing in August 2013. We will always be grateful to all his friends who visited him, helped with his appointments, took him for coffee and watched football games with him etc. A service to celebrate our dad's life will be held at Wilson's Funeral Chapel, Lacombe on Saturday, January 10th, 2014 at 1:00 PM. A family Interment for our parents in Frobisher, Saskatchewan will occur at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made by visiting www.wiilsonsfuneralchapel.ca. Dad was an active supporter of the Parkinson's Society in Red Deer and participated in their walkathon every year. If so desired, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society at 5406 - 43 St. Red Deer, AB. T4N 1C9. We loved our Dad very much and will miss him, son, Bryan (Laurie) Brandon of Carbon, Alberta, daughter Janine (Casey) Steneker of Calgary, Alberta and Warren (Michelle) Brandon of Edson, Alberta.
