In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that the family of Michael George Sawatzky, age 45, announces his peaceful passing into the presence of his lord and savior on Tuesday, July 25 at his home in Red Deer, AB.
Michael was born in 1978 to Gary and Dusanka (Donna) Sawatzky at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. He was the younger of two boys. He would spend his first 6 years in Red Deer. The next two saw his family and him living in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. They eventually all returned to Red Deer.
At a young age Michael would come to know Jesus through his father and would later be baptized. He attended youth groups and participated in pioneer boys and stockade groups through the church. Into adulthood he would always continue to pray for his family and friends.
Growing up Michael enjoyed drawing and would create his own characters sometimes even making short comic strips with them. His sense of humor and wittiness was evident. Michael would give 100 percent in all his hobbies, whether it was collecting sports cards, mountain biking, skiing or whatever else caught his interest.
Together with his older brother and friends (and contributions from grandparents and parents), they would mess around with anything engine or mechanics related. From modified rototillers to homemade motorized trikes, one would not be surprised to find a few or many cars/trucks or any other projects in various stages of repair or alteration in the yard.
For a time when he lived on an acreage just outside of Red Deer, he would enjoy riding (and fixing) quads, dirt bikes and snowmobiles in the surrounding fields and trails with his brother Larry.
It was no surprise then that he would eventually enroll in the Automotive Technician trade. Michael excelled during his apprenticeship and would receive recognition for top marks. If anyone had an automotive issue or question, he usually knew the answer and was ready to help fix the problem. Michael was truly a master of his trade.
People will remember Michael as a kind hearted person who would help you out if needed. He volunteered with The Lending Cupboard in Red Deer and enjoyed working with the other individuals there. His personality will be missed by everyone.
Michael is lovingly remembered by his parents Gary and Dusanka (Donna) Sawatzky; brother Larry Sawatzky; sister-in-law Kari Sawatzky; nephews Millen and Arly Sawatzky; uncle and aunt Bryan and Angela Sawatzky; and his cousins Janet, Rhonda, Andrea, David, Krysta, Karla, and Matthew. He will also be missed by many friends.
A service to celebrate Michael's life will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations can be made to The Lending Cupboard of Red Deer, through their website at www.lendingcupboard.ca/donation.
Condolences to Michael's family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate "Sawatzky" in the subject line.
