Minerva SWEET

SWEET (nee Marler) Minerva Thelma Sweet (nee Marler) was born November 1, 1921 in Bremner, Alberta and passed away peacefully on April 29, 2007 at the age of 85 years. She was the second child and eldest daughter of Roy C. and Mary Marler (and step-mother Edith) in a farming family that grew to 13 children. She received nurses' training at the Edmonton General Hospital, graduating in 1945. After graduation she moved to Lacombe to work at the Lacombe Hospital. She married Gordon Sweet on July 8, 1948 and spent the subsequent years nurturing and caring for her family. She leaves to morn her loving family; daughters, Betty (Tom) Matkin; Barb (Lyle) Brown and son, Roy Sweet. She also leaves her grandchildren; Patty (Shawn) Pitcher, David (Alyson) Matkin, Amy (Mike) Thomson, Ginger Matkin, Mark Matkin, Chad Brown, Josh (Savani) Brown as well as 10 great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her siblings Garnet (Elsie), sister-in-law Anne Marler, Bernice Marler, Reg (Jean), Basil (Janet), Doreen (George) Hudson, Alan (Mary), Bob (Chris), David (Jan), Rick (Robbie) and Maxine Hack, She was predeceased by her husband Gordon, granddaughter Katie Matkin, sister Oma Marler and brother Neil Marler. She enjoyed a long time involvement with both IODE and Eastern Star. Her last several years have not been easy ones and the family would like to thank Dr. Murray Martin and the wonderful staff of Lacombe Extended Care for their love and great care they showed our mother.
