REITER, Myra

Apr. 2, 1945 - Dec. 21, 2017

Myra was born April 2, 1945 in Holland to parents Bertus and Jannetje de Bruijn, and immigrated with the family to Canada in 1960. To help support her family, Myra quit school early to work in the Lacombe bakery, and it was here that she first met Robert. The two were married on April 21, 1965 and started their family shortly after. Myra worked as a stay at home mother, until her children were older and attending school. She then completed her high school education, enabling her to start her career in the public school system.

Myra continued with her education and after a brief time owning and running a small general store with Robert in Morningside, she went on to become the Administrator for the Summer Villages of Sylvan Lake and then Gull Lake, where she enjoyed interacting with citizens, mayors and council, as well as government officials at all levels of local and provincial government.

Myra will be deeply missed and leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Robert; sons Rob (Donna), Jonathan (Juliette), and daughter Patricia (Conrad), and grandchildren; Rodney (Ginny), Denise, Randy (Emily), Benjamin, Alex (Karina), Hannah, Nicole, Kristen, Owen and Saje. Myra was predeceased by her parents and brother Jim, but is survived by siblings; Henk (Annie), Bert (Marilyn), John (Stephanie), Dan (Dorothy), Johanna (Malcolm), Sarina (Bob) and Gerard (Betty) and in-laws; Ulla and Poul, Ray and Audrey, Sharon, Barbara, Donald and Dorothy, Rod and Anna, and numerous nieces and nephews, all special to her.

On Thursday December 28, 2017, Myra was laid to rest in the Saron Lutheran Church Cemetery which was followed by a Celebration of Life held at St. Andrew's United Church in Lacombe, Alberta. The family is very grateful and appreciative of the care Myra received while in hospice at the Ponoka General Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Myra's name to the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre, 5800-57 Avenue, Ponoka AB, T4J 1P1. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family at www.myalternatives.ca
