Neil ORR

ORR, Neil (Gary) May 1, 1944 – April 27, 2004 Neil Orr was born and raised in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. He was an honors graduate of Reeves Business College. Neil worked as a College Administrator for Reeves in North Battleford and Red Deer. Neil then began a lengthy career in the banking system, beginning with the Bank of Montreal and later worked at Parkland Savings and Credit Union for over twenty years. Neil managed several branches in Northern Alberta until his retirement in 2004; he was often referred to as “Mr. Credit Union”. Neil was very active in whatever community he lived in and sat on numerous boards. He was awarded the Medal of Merit from Scouts Canada and was the treasurer of the Westpark Troys for 17 years. He was a longtime member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, the Royal Canadian Legion and Masonic Lodge. Neil was involved in Minor Hockey in the capacity of coach and referee. Neil was instrumental in initiating Tom Thumb Hockey and served as Assistant Coach for the Red Deer Rustlers “B” Team. Neil married Ethel (Lewis) and they had two children together, Dwayne and Marilyn Romanchuk (Chris). The last eight years of Neil’s life were spent with his partner Sharon McIntosh and step children Jennifer Beagrie (Cam) and Allen Monk and he much loved grandchildren, Connor and Kennedy Beagrie. Neil was predeceased by an older brother Murray and younger sister Patsy. Neil is survived by his siblings, Glenn (Vera), Doug (Mary), Audrey McKeachie (Don), Shirley Vanmeter, Gordon (Myrna), Gayle Henschel (Collin) and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of Neil’s life will be held at the Red Deer Legion on Saturday, May 7, 2005 from 12:30 to 2:30. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
