It is with heartfelt sadness announce that Nellie Davies (nee: Serink) passed away peacefully on February 7th. 2021 at Holyrood Manor in Maple Ridge, BC.
Nellie was born July 28, 1927, near Bruderheim, Alberta. She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Davies (1997) and 12 siblings.
Also predeceased by three sons-in-law: Bert Vanderham, Tom Thomas and Gene Buettner.
Nellie is survived by her sister; Delores Muzyka (Edmonton), sister-in-law, Vera Serink, five children; Lynn Lewis (Dave), Ontario, Gwen Ferrey (Ron), Kelowna, Doug Davies (Trigger), Sicamous, Marilyn Davies, Red Deer, Trevor Davies (June), Maple Ridge. She was a cherished grandmother to 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren.
Nellie and Lloyd raised their family on an acreage SW. of Red Deer than relocated into the city after retirement. Their home was filled with love and laughter, smells of wonderful Ukrainian dishes, homemade bread and baking. While raising a family and working from home as a hairdresser, she inspired many with her indomitable spirit and work ethic.
Nellie was an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. She started a "Lunch on the Run" service to the community and made quilts as a fund-raising project.
She and Lloyd were Legion members. Nellie assumed the position of social convenor for her condo association. Without hesitation she generously committed to helping the community, friends and family.
Gardening, church choir, league bowling, swimming, cross country skiing, hiking, golfing, snowmobiling, skating, travel, cards and dancing were all but to name a few of her favourite activities.
She adored babies and small children.
In her seventies, Nellie entered the Edmonton Winter games and placed in speed skating.
Resourcefulness, practicality and strength were acquired characteristics. Talent and resiliency were innate characteristics. Combined, she was a powerful inspiration to all who knew her.
Nellie will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
