Norman Marlo

1930 to 2014

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Thursday, April 3, 2014 in Red Deer, AB. Norm is lovingly remembered by his wife Freda; daughters, Lynn (Glen), Sandra and Jodi (Gord); grandchildren, Daniel, Evan, Adam and Leanne. He is also survived by his brother Sylvan; sisters, Helen Marques (Lloyd), Bernice Edwards (Rod), Edith Verbicky (John), Carol Green (Hugh); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Helmer and Emma Hansen; brother, Herman; sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Richard Kuhl; brother-in-law, Gordon Green; nephew, Larry Green; niece, Wendy Edwards and great nephew, Justin Thacker. Norm was born on the family farm near Duchess, AB. He was the fifth of eight children. He grew up in the Duchess area and attended Clancy School. He had various jobs and private businesses over the years but his main career was in the automotive industry. Norm moved to Calgary in 1958 where he met his future wife and best friend, Freda Hextall. They married in 1960. Norm's career as an automotive body man culminated into management and then on to a position as an instructor at SAIT. In 1985, Norm and Freda left the Calgary area, moving to Sylvan Lake, establishing successful businesses and new friends. Norm was a kind, gentle man and had a great sense of humour even throughout his courageous battle with cancer. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, camping and travelling. He explored many places in the world and truly had a cherished life. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Norm's Life at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation directly to Red Deer Hospice, 99 Arnot Ave, Red Deer, AB T4R 3S6. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca
