NORTHEY 1953 - 2007 (Gone Fishing) Douglas (Doug) Vernon Northey of Edmonton, AB formally of Red Deer, AB passed away Thursday October 18, 2007 at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, after a courageous battle with cancer. Doug was born in Red Deer on March 2, 1953 and raised on the family farm in the Balmoral district. He took his schooling at River Glen, L.T.C.H.S. and S.A.I.T. Doug spent his career in the parts distribution business. While in Red Deer he worked for Westward Parts and Versatile Manufacturing of Winnipeg before moving to Edmonton to continue in the business. Doug loved the outdoors, especially fishing the many lakes and streams around Alberta and B.C. Many of these places he would paint on canvas and these images will now be a lasting legacy for his family and friends. Doug is survived by his Mother, Doris K. Northey of Red Deer, brothers and sisters Brian (Val) Edmonton, Bob (Jeanette) Red Deer, Garry (Cindy) Red Deer, Debbie Northey, Vancouver, Gail (John Gillis) Red Deer, Greg Northey, Victoria, B.C. Doug is also survived by nieces and nephews, Kristina and Trever Gillis, Michelle, Carter and Garret Northey all of Red Deer. Doug was predeceased by his father Chester Vernon Northey. The family wishes to thank longtime friend and fishing buddy Robert for all the support, compassion and care. In addition, a special thanks to the doctors and nurses on Unit 30 and 31 of the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton for their high standards of health care while Doug was in their care. As of Doug's wishes no formal funeral service will be held. Friends and family are invited to come reminisce and share memories of Doug at the Balmoral Community Hall, 3.8 kms. East of 30 Ave. on Hwy 11, East, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Friday October 26, 2007. If friends and family desire donations can be made to Doug's favorite organization, Ducks Unlimited, P.O.
