Orale Kewley Peterson was born September 7, 1927 in Carruthers, Saskatchewan to Fredrik Peterson and Francis Mary Kewley. He passed away peacefully in the Stettler Hospital, with family at his side. Orale was the fourth of five children that grew up on the Carruthers family farm. As a young man Orale worked on the family farm and helped carve a living out of the prairie sod. Eventually he took over the family farm and the passion for farming never left his blood. In 1966 Orale moved to the Bulwark area where he set down deep roots and engaged in mixed farming as he worked to raise eleven children.
Orale is survived by his children, Daryl (Brenda), Wynne, Connie, Ricky, Friela (Kevin), Rodney (Peggy), Dwayne, Shiena, Todd; daughter in law Carol, step children Wayne (Jolene), Cathy, sister Ruth, sister in laws Rita and Lil. He leaves a legacy of 19 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. They all have a very special place in his heart. He especially loved cuddling babies and over the years he has had many to hold and spoil. Orale was predeceased by his wife Bev, sons Lloyd and Lyle, granddaughter Rhondi, brothers Carl and Lorne, sister Pearl, brother in-laws Stuart and Alex.
Orale never let the grass grow under his feet and for most of his life he was hard to keep up with. He was always up for an adventure: fishing, bike riding, curling, skating, watching hockey and wood working, or anything that included risk! He loved to camp, fish and the "Narrows" was his favorite hangout spot. If there was ever downtime, he would be challenging someone near to a game of crib or pool and if no one took him up on the challenge, he would be playing solitaire. A man in constant motion!
In 1988 Orale married Bev Thacker and relocated to Red Deer, starting their retirement which allowed them to travel, camp and follow the Scotties and Brier curling championships for many years. He remained an avid curler well into his 80's!
Orale was known to rarely travel directly from point A to point B, but rather to drive every back road checking out the crops as he went. If there was a Tim Horton's or an Auction Mart along the way it was an automatic STOP! Orale loved to visit with those he knew and those he didn't. No one was a stranger to him. Orale was a true original, who will be missed by everyone who knew him. He enjoyed his incredible, lifelong journey to the fullest.
A celebration of Orale's life will be held on February 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm, Castor Community Hall.
