SCHUR, Orest Stanley

1930 - 2017


It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Orest Schur, joining his beloved grandson Brandon in heaven, on June 22nd, 2017 at the age of 86 years. He was a loving and caring Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend. Orest was born December 17th, 1930 in Andrew, AB. He met his loving wife and soulmate Mary, who he married in 1952. Orest began a career in law enforcement in Beverly, AB 1953. In 1959, he accepted the prestigious appointment of Chief of Police in Lacombe, AB - a position he was very proud of and which he held until retirement over three decades later. Throughout his retirement he enjoyed traveling south, camping, collecting coins, playing cards and spending time on the family farm. Orest was very proud of the Lacombe community and spent a lot of time volunteering with numerous service clubs. He is survived by his wife, Mary; their 5 children, Joanne (Lloyd) Ackerman, Barry (Wendy) Schur, Rick Schur, Lori Rae (Terry) Zak, Murray (Gail) Schur; grandchildren, Ryan and Morgan Ackerman, Andrew Schur, Heather (Dominic) Reid, Jordan (Samantha) Schur, Annie-Leigh Schur; and great grandchildren, Alexander and Elisabella Reid. Orest was predeceased by grandson, Brandon Orest Schur; and siblings, Kornel Schur and Nadia Supervich. The family would like to send their heart felt appreciation to the staff at the Centennial Centre in Ponoka, AB. A Funeral Service and Celebration of Life will be at St Andrew's United Church, 5226 - 51 Avenue, Lacombe, AB on Wednesday, July 5th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Marco Ste. Marie officiating. Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to go to the Lions Club, Lacombe Chapter, or a charity of your choice.
