Patricia Blades Richardson

January 22, 2019

December 31, 1926 - January 22, 2019
Our mom was a very gentle, kind, compassionate person who loved her family. She cherished her many friends and enjoyed the life long pleasure of being a nurse.

Mom was born on New Years Eve in Red Deer Alberta to Margaret and Herbert Blades in 1926. She was the youngest of six siblings and was especially proud of her four older brothers.

Mom attended Mt. Royal College in Calgary before moving to Victoria for nursing school at RJH. Her career was spent in the special care nursery and then at VGH in the NICU. Soon after graduation mom married dad. They built a house in Fairfield and had four children, David (Marie), Jannine (Mark), Sandra (Ian) and Julie (Chris). These were years of square dancing, camping and trips to the beach. Much later they moved to Parker Ave. in Cordova Bay where mom developed many close and enduring friendships. Mom enjoyed S&B nights with the girls, playing bridge with her long time good friend Mary Lou and parties with neighbours on the street.

She was greatly loved and will be missed by her grandchildren Ashlee, Karly, Taylor, Dylan, Lorne, Jennifer and her great-grandchildren Piper, Quinn, Neve, Lincoln, Paris, Roger, and Montana. Special thanks to Hunter for her nursing chats and companionship, care of mom and, to the great palliative care mom received from the staff at Parkwood.

In lieu of flowers - mom was a nature lover and donated to the Canadian Wildlife Federation as well as the Red Cross. Her celebration of life will be at First Memorial, Falaise Drive, Victoria on April 18 at 1:00. https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/timescolonist/obituary.aspx?n=patricia-richardson-blades&pid=191365942.
