August 16, 1931 - August 17, 2020
The family of Pauline Mireau is saddened to announce her passing on August 17, 2020, at the age of 89.
Pauline was born on a homestead near Gronlid, Saskatchewan, the 3rd eldest of 7 children. The family moved to Choiceland, Saskatchewan, where she completed elementary and high school. Pauline later attended Normal School to obtain her teaching certificate.
She taught in several small communities in Northern Saskatchewan, in mainly one-room schoolhouses, teaching grades 1-8.
Pauline married Clement Mireau in 1958. A few years later they moved to Delburne, Alberta with their daughter, where Pauline taught for 30 years.
After retiring, she continued working as a substitute teacher in Red Deer until the early 90's. As a result of her teaching career, Pauline got to know many people. She was known for her no-nonsense but very effective teaching style.
She was also remembered for her compassionate nature and the genuine caring she showed for her students.
After retirement, Pauline joined softball and curling leagues, where she had fun having people try to guess her age. Pauline played these sports into her early 80s. She equally enjoyed a competitive round of golf and nurturing a large garden. Pauline also loved her wild birds, and she ensured they were the fattest and best fed in the neighbourhood.
