PEGG 1937-2009 Mrs. Doreen Pegg (nee Smale) passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at the age of 71 years. Doreen was born and raised in the Eckville area. She moved to Dawson Creek in 1956 where she met Vern, married, and raised her family. In the late 1980's Doreen returned to her roots in Eckville. She owned and operated the Eckville Liquor Store until her retirement in 2007. Doreen maintained close ties to the Dawson Creek area returning yearly to visit with longtime friends. Doreen will be greatly missed and remembered by her children; Brent (Senja) of Edmonton, Alberta Miles (Lenore) of Red Deer, Alberta, Carmen (Jason) of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, six grandchildren; Selena, Alyssa, Kale, Carson, Rachel and Jazlyn, as well as two sisters; Evelyn Onofryszyn of Eckville, Alberta and Helen Nielsen (Dick) of Wabamun, Alberta; two brothers; Jack Smale (Marion) of Edmonton, Alberta and Mark Smale of Eckville, Alberta, eight nieces, one nephew, numerous cousins and many close friends. Doreen was predeceased by her brother, Billy, parents, Edgar and Martha, and husband, Vern. A memorial service in Doreen's honor will be held at Eckville Community Hall on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation entrusted to the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer.
