LEYEN, Peter

1930 - 2017

Mr. Peter Elbert Leyen, beloved husband of Mrs. Dora Leyen, went to be with his Lord and Saviour at Mesa, Arizona on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the age of 86 years. Peter was born in Holland in 1930 and came to Canada in 1948. He became a landed immigrant in 1955. Peter worked as a dairy farm hand, a landscaper, a cab driver and then started his career in the oilfield. As a young man, he worked on the rigs and over the years became a prominent businessman in the Oil Industry. Peter's love for animals opened the door for numerous hobbies such as; Registered Black Angus Cattle and Hanoverian Horses. His compassion for people led to many local and foreign projects including child and youth services, disaster relief, food and shelter for the homeless and assistance in obtaining knowledge of God. Peter will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dora; son, Peter Douglas (Nancy), son, Darryl (Kellie) and his grandchildren; Tori, Brooklyn, Chase and Kale. He will also be sadly missed by his sister, Coba (Johnny); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends in Holland and in Canada. Peter was predeceased by his wife, Colleen, a son, Donald (Cathy), a brother, Gerrit, and his half brothers and sisters; Dirk, Rein, Nel and Siets.

Relatives and friends are invited to come and pay their respects at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 - 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Peter's Life will be held at the CrossRoads Church, Highway 2 and 32 Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. A Private Family Interment will be held at the Aspelund Cemetery. If desired, Memorial Donations in Peter's honor may be made directly to CrossRoads Church Missions at www.crossroadschurch.ca or to a charity of the donor's choice.
