Peter STEVENS

STEVENS Peter Stevens of Alix, AB passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Hospital on August 26, 2004. Pete was born October 20, 1933 on the family farm northwest of Mirror, in the Gadsby Lake district. He was the youngest of six children born to William and Mary Stevens. Pete was educated at the Gadsby Lake School and then farmed with his mother until 1955, when he moved to Alix. He first worked at Eclipse Coal Mine, then Hi-Way Machine Shop where he apprenticed and obtained his motor mechanic and journeyman first class welding tickets. Pete was in business with a friend Joe Zemanek before starting more than twenty-eight years with Chevron. He worked at the Nevis gas plant until it shut down in 1984 and then moved to Fox Creek for eight years. Before going to Fox Creek, he challenged the apprenticeship exam and obtained a millwright ticket. Pete retired from Chevron in 1992 and moved back to Alix. He worked at various millwright jobs and was caretaker at the senior's manor after coming back to Alix. Pete is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Barbara, his son Gordon (Nicki) of Grande Prairie; his daughter Rhonda (Adrian) van Nieuwkerk of Stettler, and his six grandchildren; Steven van Nieuwkerk of Drayton Valley, Kelli Stevens of Calgary, Dennis van Nieuwkerk and fiancee' Lisa of Red Deer, Kyle Stevens of Innisfail, Bradley van Nieuwkerk of Stettler and Katie Stevens of Grande Prairie. Pete is also survived by his sister Doris (Ross) Albers of Bashaw, his brother William of Daysland, Jocelyn Stevens and Paul Publicover of Innisfail, his father-in-law Gordon Braden and sister-in-law Aretha Stevens. Pete was predeceased by his mother and father, two brothers (George and Jimmy), one sister (Mary) and his dear friend Joe Zemanek. Funeral Services will be held from Wilson's Funeral Chapel Lacombe on Monday August 30, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Alix Cemetery.
