PEWTRESS Mr. James Jeffrey ‘Jeff’ Pewtress, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Gladys Pewtress of Red Deer, passed away peacefully at the Valley Park Manor Nursing Home, Red Deer on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at the age of 89 years. Jeff was born on May 3, 1916 at Hardisty, Alberta. At an early age he began farming but was called to serve his country in World War II. Jeff fought in the Battle of Dieppe and was held as a Prisoner Of War in Stalag VIII B in Germany. Finally in 1945, he returned from the war and came home to return to farming. Jeff was a loving, caring and very devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a good friend. He was truly a loving caregiver his whole life through and was very committed to his family and others. Jeff was passionate about his farming but went on to work for Alberta Government Telephones for the next twenty-five plus years. Jeff enjoyed being active and participated in curling, he loved dancing and later enjoyed watching sports such as hockey, football and golf on television. As a youngster, he loved playing baseball. Our loving father and grandfather, Jeff will be very sadly missed but lovingly remembered and forever cherished in the hearts of his family and dear friends. Jeff leaves to mourn his loss, his daughters, Marian (Ron) Erickson, Fran (Wayne) Prentice, both of Calgary, Alberta, Judy (Ken) Fraser of Bentley, Alberta and Pat (Joe) Doyle of Red Deer, his grandchildren, Sandra (John) Dragich, Paula (Mike) Callihoo and Cliff (Kathy) Prentice, all of Calgary, Brenda (Eppo) Eerkes of Redwood Meadows and Craig (Jamie) Fraser of Sylvan Lake and his great grandchildren, Ash, Mitchell, Keese, Tayla, Denai and Sadie. Jeff was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife, Gladys, brothers, Frank Pewtress and Charlie Pewtress, sisters, Kay Lemay and Ethel King and brothers, Tom Clark and Colin Clark. A Public Celebration of Jeff’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 35, 2810 Bremner Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, January 23, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation entrusted to the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. A Private Family Interment will be held at the Alto-Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Jeff’s honour may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 4730A Ross Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 1X2.
