PHIBBS

May 7, 2009

PHIBBS It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 of Marian Edith Phibbs of Stettler, Alberta. Mother, Grandmother, Great grandmother, Sister, Friend, she touched many hearts and will be greatly missed. Marian was born in Hanna, Alberta on November 6, 1928 to Karl and Beatrice Laarz and grew up in the Rose Lynn area south of Hanna. On June 25, 1950, Marian married Roy Stacey Phibbs of Watts, Alberta, spending the 47 years of their marriage in Endiang, Halkirk and Stettler. Both avid travelers, they spent much time exploring and camping all over Canada and the United States, punctuated by Marian's love of sports, bowling, curling and golf. As well as being an active sportswoman, Marian also exercised her wonderful recordkeeping skills, not only as a part-time bookkeeper for various businesses, but at home organizing family records. When Roy passed away in August of 1997, her many life long friends and her many activities helped her to carry on. By remaining active in golf, bowling and a variety of bus tours and casino trips; Marian was able to cope with the onset of rheumatoid arthritis as well. Very determined and with a love of life vibrant in everything she did, she made the difficult decision to sell her home and move to Heart Haven Lodge in June 2006. With the move, Marian's health improved and she continued to travel, keep busy and meet new friends. George Pivert, became one such dear friend. Together they traveled and attended many social events and visited with old friends, making her life full and enjoyable right to the end. Marian was proud to be a lifetime member of the Royal Purple and spent her last evening with her Royal Purple "Sisters." Marian is survived by her children: Gwen (Terry) Stenberg, Jerry (Karin) Phibbs, Doug (Sherri Bohn) Phibbs; special friend George Pivert; grandson Stacey Stenberg; step grandchildren Teresa (Brent) Baltimore, Darcy (Gaylene) Cleven, Kirsten Bohn, Alex Bohn; step great grandchildren Joseph, Nora, and Grace Baltimore, Karra and Haley Cleven; sister Gladys (Jack) Groat; nieces Beverley (Duane) Schroeder, Colleen (Chuck) Houston, Aileen (Svend) Knudskov; nephews Bob (Lorna) Phibbs and Bill Phibbs.
