MARSHALL Philip (Phil) Lawson Marshall of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on December 26 at the age of 89. Phil was born on 27 October 1919 at Innisfail and grew up on the family farm north west of Innisfail. When the Second World War commenced Phil served as an aircraft mechanic at Bagotville, Quebec and Summerside, PEI. After the war, he returned to Red Deer to pursue his carpenter trade. While working in Red Deer he met Pat DeBolt; they were married in 1948. After the marriage they moved to Kelowna where their son, Wayne, was born. A few years later Phil and Pat returned to Red Deer where two more children were born; Ken and Bev. As a carpenter, Phil built houses, apartments, schools, pole barns, and commercial buildings. He spent most of his working life as a carpenter in the Red Deer area. In his later years he worked as a maintenance carpenter at the Michener Centre and then moved to work at the Penhold Airbase as a carpenter until his retirement. He was predeceased by his first wife Pat in 1982 and his siblings Lottie, Jim, Blair, and Allan. He is survived by his wife Margaret (Marnie); his sons Wayne (Ellen) of Calgary, Ken (Susan) of Leduc; and daughter Bev (AJ) of Red Deer; stepchildren Dennis (Marilyn), Marilyn (Gary); six grand children and four great-grand children. A funeral service will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapels, 4820 – 45 Street, Red Deer on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. If desired Memorial Donations may be made in Phil's honor to the Salvation Army 4837-54 Street, Red Deer Alberta, T4N 2G5.
