POWELL (1943-2006) Iris Powell passed away suddenly on August 29th, 2006 after a 4 year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). She leaves to mourn her husband, Wayne; Son David (Lori), their children Tyson and Kassidy; Daughter Kimberley (Greg Rietze) their children Jeremy and Kendahl; Sister Linda, Auntie Ruth Lelond, and 3 nieces, Stacey, Jodi, and Nicole. Iris was predeceased by her parents Jean and Roy in 1958, and her Uncle Wes Lelond in 1988. Iris was born in Brandon, MB and raised in Miniota, MB. She completed her LPN courses in Winnipeg and nursed in various hospitals around MB. She married Wayne on May 15, 1965. After moving to Alberta, in 1976 , Iris soon joined the Avon team. She began selling Avon in Drumheller and soon moved up the ranks to District Manager where she spent the last 20 years of her career. In August 2002, Iris was diagnosed with ALS. Although this disease brought with it many challenges, she faced each one with strong courage, determination and a real zest for life, not ever letting her physical disabilities rob her of the opportunities to spend with those she loved, especially her grandchildren. She was instrumental in bringing the annual Walk for ALS to Red Deer and was passionate in her pursuits to spread awareness of the disease. Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew's United Church, 5226 - 51 Avenue, Lacombe, Alberta on Wednesday, September 6th, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society of Alberta, Suite 400, 320 - 23rd Ave. S.W.
