June 22, 2009

PRONCHUK Mary Nellie Pronchuk born December 8, 1918 in Fort Elphinstone, Aberdeen, Scotland, passed away, content and peaceful on Friday, June 12, 2009 in the Stettler Pine Ridge Home. She took a fall on December 27, 2008 at her residence in Paragon Place which resulted in hip surgery and a stroke. She remained in active treatment until February and then she took up residence in Pine Ridge. Mary came to Canada with her mother at six months of age, and then grew up on the Baird farm south of Byemoor. She went to school at Heart Lake with step- brothers, John and James Baird. Mary married Fred Reeves in November 1938 and to this union four children were born: Joyce Mary 1939, Fredrick Lawrence 1941, John Kenneth 1943 and William Gerald in April of 1945. To make ends meet they grew a large garden, farmed, milked cows and sold the cream. Her lifetime dream was to become a nurse, so after her children were raised she went to Calgary and took a CNA course at the age of 45 years. This took her to work at the Colonel Belcher Hospital and the TB Sanatorium and she retired from the Glenmore Hospital in the 90's. In 1975 Mary was united in marriage to Walter Pronchuk of Calgary. They enjoyed 18 years of travel, gardening, entertaining, visiting and grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her mother, Mary Ann, step father, William Baird (Paddy), two step brothers, John and James Baird and two of her children, Gerald and Lawrence. She is survived by daughter, Joyce (Blake) Clausen, son, Kenneth (Marcella) Reeves; ten grandchildren, twenty- one great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral services for the late Mary Pronchuk were held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Byemoor Community Hall, Byemoor, Alberta with Pastor Ross Helgeton officiating.
