RAFFA 1923 - 2009 Olga Kay Raffa of Red Deer passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the age of 86 years. Born Katarzyna Olga Mucha on August 22, 1923 in Pisksrawrcs, Poland. She immigrated to Canada, arriving in Montreal in 1939. From there she moved with her family to settle in Abee, Alberta and worked in Edmonton for 2 years. Known in these early years as "Kayde" she moved to Hamilton from 1941-1945 where she worked in a factory during World War II. Olga returned to Edmonton in 1947 to marry the love of her life, Peter Raffa. They lived in Bashaw and Edmonton before moving to Red Deer in 1963. Over the next 45 years, Olga raised her family of six children and enjoyed bowling, gardening and singing in the church choir. With Peter, Olga was most proud of being founding members of St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church. Olga is survived by her children Donald (Dianne Tyo) of Edmonton, Alberta, John (Beverlie) of Stony Plain, Connie Lysons (Jim) of Ponoka, Robin (Mylene) of Red Deer, and Theresa Raffa Sampson (Tom) of Calgary. "Baba" was blessed with eight grandchildren, Tylor, Zoltan, Jesse, Shawn, Nicole, Lucas, Joseph and Hannah as well as five great grand daughters Roxanne, Zoey, Emily, Isabelle and Tessa. Olga's family also includes extended family members Cheryll Findlay, Jessica Raffa, Taryn Raffa, Jennifer Raffa, Michael and Tiffany LaBelle, Matthew Tyo, Debi Lysons, Cathy Litke, and Chris Litke, and Debbie Raffa. Olga leaves behind her sister Ann Turta, brothers Alex, Peter, and Walter Mucha, all of Edmonton, as well as their families. Olga was predeceased by her daughter, Rose Mary in 1979, her husband Peter in 1996, her parents Elko (Alex) and Katherine, brothers Mike and John, and sister Mary. Divine Liturgy (Funeral Services) will be celebrated on Friday, October 2nd, 2009 at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church, 3932 - 46th Street, Red Deer, Alberta at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Father Julian Bilyj, Main Celebrant. Interment at Red Deer Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made in Olga's memory to St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church 3932 - 46th Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 1M1.
