RAMSEY, LEROY Mr. Leroy Ramsey of Edberg passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose at the age of 93 years. Leroy was born to Mary and Peter Ramsey at New Norway, Alberta on March 21st, 1916. At a young age he moved with his parents to a farm south of Edberg which is now known as the Klevgaard Farm. He went to school at the Stockholm country school near their home. On February 8, 1950 Leroy married Luella Rasmussen and enjoyed 59 years of married life. They farmed Luella’s Dad’s farm south of Edberg for thirty two years. They retired into a home in Edberg and spent thirteen winters in Mesa, Arizona. Left to mourn is his loving wife, Luella "Sissy"; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Devina and Gordon Dennis; sister-in-law, Ruth Ramsey; and five nieces and nephews. Leroy was predeceased by his mother and father, Mary and Peter Ramsey, brothers, Oris and Alex Ramsey; and two sisters, Cora Dahl and Clara Sproule. As a young man, he went to Fort Erie, Ontario and worked at the Fleet Air Craft. As all his friends were called to the Armed Forces for World War Two, he also joined, and shortly after was shipped overseas to the front line in Germany and France. His group was the second one to go over after the first group went over in what is known as Dieppe Raid. Leroy loved sports, but baseball was his first love and he was a pitcher around the country for years. He also loved to curl. When his age caught up with him he started to golf, which he and Luella spent many hours doing. Leroy loved people and having a good laugh. He also loved the garden and flowers, plus feeding all the birds. Leroy will be missed especially by his wife, relatives, and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2009 from Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Ken Grambo and Rev. Jeff Decelle officiating. Interment followed in the Camrose Cemetery.
