RANGER It is with heavy heart that the Ranger family announces the passing of Joseph (Ray) Roger Real Ranger, dear husband, father and grandfather. Ray passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Monday, February 23, 2009 at the age of 82 years. Ray will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Mary, two sons; Ronald Patrick of Drumheller and Stephen John of Sylvan Lake, three daughters; Janice Mary of Fox Creek, Karen Diane of Red Deer and Kathleen Barbara of Cremona, thirteen grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves to mourn three brothers; Alfred, Lawrence and Marcel, and sisters; Sister Jacqueline and Sister Frances. He will be dearly missed and will remain forever in our hearts. Ray was predeceased by his infant daughter, Janet Marie. He was also predeceased by his father, Ralph, his mother, Hortense, step-mother, Catherine, brothers; Ferdinand, Raymond, Robert, Gaston and two sisters; Charlotte and Diane. Ray was born on May 12, 1926 to Hortense and Ralph Ranger of Kindersley, Saskatchewan. He was raised on the family farm near Coleville, Saskatchewan. He joined the Canadian Army Forces in 1943 and did his basic training at Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. He then shipped out to England and completed his tours of duty. After he was discharged, he married Mary Hauck of Kerrobert, Saskatchewan on November 9, 1949 and moved to Calgary where he became a builder. Ray and family moved to Red Deer in 1958. He established J.R. Ranger Construction Ltd. and later partnered to form Ranger Homes Ltd. The company was successful in custom homes and commercial buildings. He retired in 1986. Ray spent his years pursuing his favourite hobbies, while devoting his knowledge and time with his family. Ray firmly believed that his family always came first and enjoyed spending his time travelling and fishing with them. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. A Prayer Service will be held at the Red Deer Funeral Home (6150 - 67 Street) on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Visitations to follow from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Michael Blanche officiating.
