BELANGER

1926 - 2014

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our teacher, our mentor, our loving father, grandfather and incredible husband, Raymond Francis Belanger of Red Deer County on September 8, 2014 at the age of 88 years. Ray was born to parents Amy and Albert Belanger in Telfordville, Alberta. He was no stranger to hard work or dedication to the task at hand. In the early years farmed with his wife from 1949 to 1956. Leaving the farm he pursued a career in road construction. Many roads in Alberta have been made created by Ray's skilled hands. Later he and his wife moved to Fort Nelson B.C. His task, to forge the Alaska Hwy. Today not a bad drive in good weather, back then terrain and conditions posed incredible challenges. When they had enough of moving up and down the Alaska Hwy, they settled in Fort Nelson to join his brother Bud and support of their parents operated a gas station, bulk plant and restaurant at mile 301. In 1973 they relocated to Red Deer, and continued in the trucking industry until retirement. Ray's service and wonderful candor has effected many in his wake. Always had a smile and spread his kindness wherever he went. In retirement Ray enjoyed a challenging game of Yatzee or scrabble with family and friends. Always there to offer a helping hand, Ray's presents and his optimism will be missed greatly, may he rest in peace and never be forgotten. Ray leaves to continue his legacy his loving wife of 65 years Mary; daughter Terri; son Darin; grandchildren Robyn (Randy), Telara, Nash and Lexus. Also to mourn Ray's loss are three sister in-laws, Alma, Theresa, and Betty (Fred); one brother in-law, John as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members and many special friends including Sandra and the Burrington Family and neighbors of Waskasoo Estates. In following with Ray's wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Memorial donations in Ray's honor may be made directly to the STARS Foundation, Box 570, 1441 - Aviation Park NE, Calgary AB T2E 8M7.
