It is with much sorrow that we announce the passing of Stan Spence, 86, at Nanaimo Hospital on Wednesday, January 18, 2017.
Stan was born in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. In June 1956 he was ordained a Methodist Minister, and a month late he married Penny Stanley, of Lismore, Ireland. They embarked as missionaries to serve in Haiti, where they lived for 10 years, bearing son Peter and daughter Janet while there. In 1966 they returned to Ireland, then in 1972 they immigrated to Canada, where Stan took a post with the United Church of Canada in Bowden, Alberta. In 1980 he became an Educational Psychologist with the Red Deer School District, from which he retired in 1992 to relocate to Nanoose Bay.
