AYLING Reverend Father Joseph Ayling of Innisfail passed away Sunday, June 4, 2006 at the age of 81 years. Joseph Ayling was born August 2, 1924 at Vegreville, AB to Regenald and Marie Ayling. He lived in Vermilion until the age of 8, and then moved to Camrose where he went to public school. In 1943, Joseph joined the Royal Canadian Navy for two years. In 1948, Joseph went to Campion College at the University of Saskatchewan, and then from there went to St Joseph’s Seminary where he took Philosophical and Theological Studies. In 1988, he took Post Graduate Studies, and a Priestly Ministry Course in Rathgar, Dublin. Joseph was ordained on June 10, 1956 at St. Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Camrose. Father Ayling held many positions over the years. Through 1956-1961, he was the Assistant Pastor at Christ-King Parish in Stettler, AB. Through 1961-1962, he was the Assistant Pastor at St Martin’s Parish, and was also the Chaplain of St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Vegreville, AB. Through 1962-1967, he became Pastor and founder of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Evansberg, Alberta. From 1967-1974 he was the Pastor of St. Michael Parish in Bashaw, AB. Through 1974 – 1982 he was the Pastor of St Martin’s Parish in Vegreville, AB. He was the Pastor of St Stephen’s Parish in Olds, AB from 1982– 1988. He was the Pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Sylvan Lake, AB from 1988 – 1992, and finally serving as Pastor of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Innisfail, AB from 1992 -2000 and then retired in Innisfail until his passing. Joseph had many interests including photography, stamp collecting and gardening. Joseph was predeceased by his parents Regenald and Marie Ayling and sister Marie Sharp. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 8, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Our Lady Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 4303 49 Ave. Innisfail, AB with The Most Reverend Thomas C. Collins celebrant.
