Robert Gordon "Slim"

It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness that the loving family of Robert Gordon "Slim" Philip announce his passing on Wednesday November 11th, 2009 at the Foothills Medical Centre at the age of 80 years. Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years Laura, five sons: Bob (Gwen) of Red Deer, Pat (Edel) of Calgary, Darcy of Red Deer, Dan of Calgary, and Donald of Edmonton; three daughters: Sharon Philip (Dan) of Manning, Debbie (Rick) Hodgkinson of Lacombe, and Heather (Don) Broughton of Lacombe. Gordon's memory will be forever cherished by his 11 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his passing; his brother, Ronald (Laverna) of Red Deer, and his two sisters; Marion (George) Hamm of 100 Mile House, B.C., and Margret Montieth of Rimbey. Gordon was predeceased by his parents Catherine and Archibald. Gordon was born at the Red Deer General Hospital November 20th, 1928, the first of 4 children born to Archibald and Catherine Philip. Gordon remained in Red Deer for all of his 80 plus years, growing into the young man they called Slim. Slim met and courted a young Lady, Laura Hollman, whom he soon won over to marriage on September 6th, 1952 in Red Deer. Gordon and Laura raised 8 children, and they were Gordon's pride and joy. Gordon enjoyed camping and working with his children; and was always available to help build a home, deck or roof, and he always brought his own saw and hammer. Gordon's family grew to include his 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, each of whom had a special place in his heart. He let them know that by his Attention to each and every one of them when they visited. Gordon's education was hard work, and he ended his 40 year career with Macdonalds Consolidated as their General Manager. He will be missed by all who knew him. As per Gordon's wishes, a private family Memorial Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Gordon's memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 101 - 5208- 53 Avenue, Red Deer, AB, T4N 5K2 or Foothills Medical Centre, AC136 - 1403- 29 Street NW, Calgary, AB, T2N 2T9.
