Robert Oscroft passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Thursday, October 23, 2014 with his wife Kathy, daughter Jennifer, and caregivers; Amanda, Chelsi, Nejat, Carrie, Jackie, Neda, and Gus, by his side. Robert was active in the Fire Service in both Alberta and the Northwest Territories for over 50 years. He became a volunteer firefighter with the County of Strathcona at the age of 15, was hired as the first full time firefighter in 1965, and became Deputy Chief in 1966. He was hired as Fire Chief for the City of Yellowknife in 1970. He relocated to Red Deer and was Fire Chief for the city from 1979 until his retirement in 1997. In 2000, Robert went to work with the County of Red Deer to assist with special projects until 2003 and then continued as a volunteer until 2010. A Memorial Service will be held at the Harvest Centre, Westerner Park, 4847A – 19 Street, Red Deer, AB, on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a gift to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, directed to Esophageal Cancer/clinical trial research, 710-10123 99 Street NW, Edmonton, AB, T5J 3H1.
