Robert

1933 - 2014

Mr. Robert 'Bob' John Mains of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice, after a lengthy battle with cancer, on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the age of 81 years. Bob was born on September 13, 1933 at Brockville, Ontario. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of eighteen to pursue his passion for aviation. He found his way to Sea Island, Vancouver where he met and married the love of his life, his miracle, Margaret Rose Mundy. They moved to France in 1962 and returned to Canada in 1967 without their sports cars but with two kids in tow. The couple settled in Edmonton and welcomed another son before relocating the family to Red Deer in 1971, when Bob retired from the Forces. Bob spent the majority of his civilian career working on water bombers as Director of Maintenance for Airspray 1967 Ltd. at the Red Deer Regional Airport. He was active in Red Deer Minor Hockey as a hockey dad, referee, coach, tournament organizer and as Zone 4 Chairman for Alberta Minor Hockey. He also enjoyed building and trying to fly model aircraft. He enjoyed many hours and shed a few tears with his friends at the "little airport". Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Margaret, and his children, Randy (Dawn, Kyle, Haylee), Sandra (Shawn) and Steven (Agatha). He will also be dearly remembered by his family, nieces, nephews, friends, colleagues and "adopted" children who called him Coach and made his house a home. Bob was predeceased by his daughter, Suzanne Rose, his father, Thomas, mother, Caroline, sister, Marlene and brother, Tom, his father-in-law, Albert and mother-in-law, Isabella. A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 - 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Bob's honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at
