Ron STONEHOUSE

January 8, 2007

STONEHOUSE Ron (Stoney, Lefty) Stonehouse, father, friend and lover of life and laughter, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Friday, December 29, 2006, at the age of 69 years. Ron was born October 14, 1937 in Melfort, Saskatchewan. In 1946 he moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba with his family. There, he became a well-known curler and butcher. He married Margaret Taylor in 1961, and they had two children, Shawna and Derek. Hearing "Go west young man", he took his family to Red Deer in 1967. There he worked as a butcher and then sold cars as part of the team that started Kipp Scott Ltd. Ron retired due to a stroke in 1996 and has dealt with health problems until his death. Ron is predeceased by his father Maurice; mother Ruth; sister Myra Graham; and beloved cat Toiyen. He is survived by his children, Shawna and Derek (Kim); brother Chuck; grandchildren Taylor, Quinn and Wade; and grandcat Red. His wicked sense of humour and friendship will be missed by all who knew him. Long time Flin Flon friend, Don Longmore said "he is at rest now, he was a legend in his own time for sure. Always lots of laughs and quick comebacks. It is a lesson on how diabetes can take a toll on a person". In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #6, 5015 - 48th St., Red Deer, AB T4N 1S9, or to a charity of your choice. A celebration of Ron's life will be held in July, 2007 in Red Deer and in Flin Flon.
