HOEKEMA, Ronald

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ronald Hoekema on February 17, 2017 at the age of 70. Ron leaves behind his loving wife Sylvia; their daughter Roxanne Ludu of Lloydminster, AB; grandson Rick Ludu of Penticton, BC; and grandchildren Isaac and Isabelle Ludu of Lloydminster, AB. He also leaves to mourn his siblings: Rinke (Elinor), Tom, Jack (Ann), Mable, Jean (Fred), Jane and numerous extended family and friends. Ron was predeceased by his parents Teak and Maaika Hoekema, and his brother Henry, as well as brother in laws Martin and Sid. Ron was born in the Netherlands, and immigrated with his family to Canada in 1952 to Woodstock, ON. He was raised here and later moved to Edmonton, AB, where he was introduced to his bride and love of his life, Sylvia. Ron enjoyed a career as produce manager for Woodward's Food Division for over 25 years until he changed careers and became an insurance advisor for the Knights of Columbus for the next 9 years leading up to his retirement.

A prayer vigil will be held at the Eventide Funeral Chapel and Crematorium on Sunday March 5, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. and a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Parish, 6 McMillan Ave, Red Deer, AB on Monday March 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Len Cadieux officiating. Donations can be made to the Canada Heart and Stroke Foundation, 5913 - 50 Ave 202, Red Deer AB T4N 4C4.
