September 6, 1953 - April 5, 2025

Kent was born on September 6, 1953, in Mayerthorpe, Alberta. His early years were spent living in Alder Flats with his parents (Norm and Ivie) and his younger brother Punch. They lived on an oil lease that his father managed for Chevron. Kent learned to skate and swim at a pond near his home and to ride on a Welsh pony that he won at a local fair. When Kent was 13 years old, the family moved to Brooks and, two years later, to Red Deer.

At 16, Kent met his future wife, Judy, and they forged a friendship that became a lifelong partnership and loving marriage. They married in 1973. In 1975, Kent and Judy welcomed their first son, Kent Christopher, and in 1977, they were blessed with a second son, Daniel James. Their 51-year marriage was filled with genuine love and friendship.

Kent was a journeyman electrician and, alongside his partners, built Titan Electric and Controls. Titan was named in honour of Kent's brother Punch, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident at the age of sixteen. The word "Titan" means one who stands out for greatness of achievement.

Kent was a tireless worker and a great listener. He was immensely proud of his family and cherished his many friends. Kent's happy place was on the mountain in Fernie, British Columbia. Many family memories were made there, and he treasured his time with his children, grandchildren, and friends in Fernie.

Kent was a provider and caregiver in so many ways. He loved his role as Papa and adored his grandchildren, Chase, Chloe, Charlotte, and Alice.

When home in Red Deer, he enjoyed golfing at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club, where he had served on the Board of Directors. He was also a past member of the Red Deer Optimist Club. Kent had an entrepreneurial spirit and loved working on real estate developments, often with friends as partners. He was part of a close-knit group of friends, "Boys O' the Black," who traveled to Ryder Cup events around the world over the years—a true brotherhood. Each week, on Thursday at 4 p.m., they gather for drinks at One Eleven, keeping Kent's seat warm for him.

Kent is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Chris (Kristen) and Dan (AnneMarie); and grandchildren, Chase, Chloe, Charlotte, and Alice. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends.

Kent passed away at the age of seventy-one at the Red Deer Hospice, surrounded by his family. He fought a difficult battle with Glioblastoma, facing the last 15 months of his life with the same grit, bravery, and dignity that defined his life.

A private celebration of Kent's Life will be held in May. Please share and view condolences and memories on the Obituaries section of the Eventide Funeral Home website.
