December 25, 1949 - November 3, 2019
Our beloved Ron passed away peacefully, surrounded by family in the ICU unit of the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, Alberta on Nov 3, 2019.
He was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, brother and best friend to many.
Ron was born in Red Deer, AB on December 25th, 1949. His youth was spent growing up in the Red Deer area making many lifelong friends and acquaintances along the way. He met the love of his life Helen in 1968, and they were married in 1969, calling the Red Deer area their home. Ron and Helen raised 3 sons- Tony, Robert and Ryan, which turned into a lifetime of adventures and stories.
Ron returned to school at SAIT in 1972 and achieved his Sheet Metal Journeyman ticket in 1976, winning many awards during these 4 years as he was a very skilled tradesman. He worked in this trade through to his retirement. Ron spent the majority of this career in management positions, as his quick wit kept the troops in line and his exceptional problem solving skills, made him a very welcome leader in any team.
Ron enjoyed to golf, along with his strong desire to teach all of the younger family members how to curse, which were usually their first words.
His humorous, kind loving spirit and fierce, protective loyalty will be missed by anyone who met him. Whether you knew him for 5 minutes or 55 years, everyone loved him.
Ron was survived by sons Tony Russell (Cathy), Ryan Russell (Lacey), 8 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, and 2 great grandsons. Two sisters Norma Kennedy (Nick), Debra Makaryshyn (Carl), four sister in laws Janine Taylor (Tom), Johnnie DesRochers, Susan McKenzie (Jack) and Linda Guay. Predeceased by his Son Robert, wife Helen, parents Gwen and Roy Russell, and sister Linda.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at the Peter Lougheed hospital for the amazing care and attention Ron received in his time there. You are truly angels among us.
