Roy McNichol

September 11, 2017

We will cherish our memories of Roy.

On Monday, September 11, 2017, Roy McNichol passed away peacefully at the age of 79 years.

Born in Lethbridge, AB, on January 9, 1938, Roy saw the world with curiosity and enjoyed the company of those who shared the same outlook on life. He was most happy in the wilderness; camping, fishing, hunting. Roy always marveled at a good meal, no matter how simple. He engaged in a good scotch, providing he had company to share it with.

Roy and his wife, Elsie, shared love for their children, grand-children, and baseball. It was also Roy's good fortune to know and love Mas Ito, his lifelong friend, who inspired him to act with integrity and live with gratitude.

Elsie and Roy were married 56 years. Their son Mas (Karen), daughters Chantelle (Doug) and Donna (Gene) and foster son Victor (Pat), along with grandchildren: Josh (Morgan), Rachel (Travis), Katherine, Kayla, Kathleen and Edward, deeply mourn the loss of their father and grand-father. Comfort is found in knowing he lived a robust life.

A Gathering to celebrate Roy's life will take place on Saturday, September 23, 2017, from 1:00-4:00pm, at Oliver's Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

Roy was well known for delivering bouquets to demonstrate his appreciation. On this occasion the family asks that, in lieu of a bouquet even Roy would admire, a donation be made to your choice of two worthy organizations that played important roles in his life: Wood's Homes Foundation (805 37 St. NW, Calgary, AB, T2N 4N8) and the Breathe Easy Program at the Edmonton General Hospital (cheques payable to: Edmonton General Hospital - Memo: Breathe Easy, Room 3C60, 11111 Jasper Ave., Edmonton, AB, T5K 0L4).
