Ruby Gwendolyn

It is with great sadness that the family of Ruby Gwendolyn Sutley, announce her passing on March 19, 2014, at the age of 94. Ruby was born in Langden, Alberta and was one of eight children born to Roger ad Viola Dye. She married Harold (Bud) Sutley on November 27, 1938, and they farmed east of Alix and raised their 6 children until 1975. They then moved to the Village of Alix and managed the Haunted Lakes Golf Club for many years. Ruby lead a full life and she enjoyed many sports including: softball, curling, golfing, floor curling and her lifetime love of card games, especially crib. She was also involved for many years in the Alberta Senior Games and in 1984 won the Northern Alberta Championship for ladies curling. A very important part of her retirement included: camping, fishing and travelling to outdoor concerts with family and friends. She loved people of every age and socialized with many. Ruby is survived by her children, Lorna, Keith (Debbie), Gary, Ron (Debbie) and daughter-in-law Marilyn; fifteen grandchildren and spouses, thirteen great-grand children and one great-great-grandson; her sisters Gladys Lyle, Dorothy McGonigal, Betty Gibbons, and brother, Roger Dye, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Roger and Viola; husband Bud; children Ken and Marlene; son-in-law Terry; daughter-in-law Gail; granddaughter Korena; great-granddaughter Jessica, and great-great grandson Wyatt. The family would like to thank Dr. Keller and the staff at the Lacombe Hospital for their kindness and compassion. If people wish, donations may be made in memory of Ruby, to their charity of choice. No formal Funeral Service will be held at Ruby's request. An Open House and Celebration of Ruby's Life will be held at the Alix Community Hall, Alix, AB. on Saturday, March 29th, 2014 from 2-5 pm.
