RUFF DOROTHY JEAN (CROCKER) Mrs. Dorothy Jean (Crocker) of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord whom she loved and served at Red Deer Regional Hospital on August 6, 2007 at 88 years of age. She was born in Toronto, Ontario on December 5, 1918 but was raised on a homestead farm near Kindersley, Sask. Dorothy took her schooling in a one-room country school with high school in Kindersley then went on to graduate from Prairie Bible Institute, Three Hills, Alberta. Dorothy also obtained a Pre-School Education Certificate from the University of British Colombia. She ministered in church work in Busby and Rich Valley, Alberta and married Rev. Jesse Ruff in 1946. Together they served churches in Giscome, B.C., Evansburg and Condor, Alberta. The family lived in Kamloops, B.C. and Blackfalds and Red Deer, AB. In each of these communities Dorothy set up Kindergartens. In Red Deer she established the Fairview Kindergarten society, teaching and supervising seven centers north of the Red Deer River until her retirement in 1989. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by many parents and children. For the final six years of her life, Dorothy enjoyed living at Legacy Estates where she made many special friends. Dorothy was also active in church life in the Deer Park Alliance Church where the Church family was her family too. Her quick smile and cheery greeting will be missed. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Carolyn (husband James, Gregory and Steven Wallace) of Marietta Georgia; her son David (wife Betty, Jeremy and Nathan Ruff) of Calgary; brother Kenneth and wife Elaine of Saskatoon; brother Allan and wife Myrtle of Medicine Hat; brother Milford and wife Ruby of Fort Collins, Colorado. Other family members who mourn Dorothy’s passing include Norman Galbraith (brother-in-law), Penticton; Herman Ruff (brother-in-law), Saskatoon as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Jess in 2001, her father, mother and stepmother, 2 sisters and 3 sisters-in-law. Following a private internment, a memorial service in celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at Deer Park Alliance Church, 2960-39 Street, Red Deer on Monday, August 13, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. A viewing for family and friends will be at Deer Park Alliance on Sunday, August 12, 2001 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to Gideons International.
