Russell passed away Dec. 10, 2018, in Taipei, Taiwan, from stomach cancer. Russell loved the academic side of life. He was his high school valedictorian, received his bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Calgary and later received his CPA designation. He was very fond of Asia and after graduating spent three years teaching in South Korea and the last 12 years teaching in Taiwan. He loved teaching, with a special interest in three to six-year-old children.
Russell loved his life in Taiwan where he admired the Chinese sense of family and their constant strive for learning. Russell was proud of his Canadian roots and particularly enjoyed the many outdoor activities that Canada offered.
He is survived by his father Barry Holmes (Linda) and brother Gregory.
Russell was predeceased by his mother Joy Holmes and grandparents Ron and Mayme Holmes and Alex and Elsa McKenzie.
A memorial service will be held in Canada at a later date.
