Russell OXTOBY

OXTOBY Russell Allan Oxtoby passed away peacefully at the Olds Regional Hospital on February 11, 2008 at the age of 86. Russell was a lifelong resident of Innisfail and was born here on March 31, 1921 to Milton & Mabel Oxtoby. He attended school in Innisfail & worked on the family farm as well as at the local garage where he learned some of his mechanical knowledge. As soon as Russell became of age he enlisted in the service and used some of his mechanical abilities to become an aviation mechanic with the Royal Canadian Airforce until the end of WW 2. Russell traveled with friends before he settled back in Innisfail where he met & married Jacqueline Courshene of Quebec. They purchased a farm SW of Innisfail where they raised their three children, Wayne, Heather & Brian. After many successful years of farming Russell & Jackie started to travel & enjoy life until the untimely passing of Jackie. After a few lonely years Russell then met & married Lena St. Jean of Innisfail. "Russ & Lena" -as they were known around town, enjoyed each others company traveling to many places, dancing at the legion & socializing with many friends & family. Russell always had a great passion for music and learned to play many instruments with much ease. Russell's other great love was his motorbikes which he enjoyed until just a few short years ago. Russell always had a great sense of humor & loved to joke with those around him even right up to the end. He will be truly missed by all that knew him. Russell will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lena & her children: Noel (Theresa), Hubert (Kim), Debbie (Rodney) & Donna (Doug). By his sons Wayne (Colleen) and Brian (Nancy) Russell is also survived by his grandchildren Curtis Oxtoby, Amy Oxtoby and Cody & Brandy Welty. One Brother Orville (Marg) and many extended family members. Russell was predeceased by his first wife Jacqueline Oxtoby, his daughter Heather Welty, his granddaughter Tanya Oxtoby. His infant sister Myrna Oxtoby & his two brothers Ralph & George Oxtoby. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Funeral services will be held at the Innisfail United Church on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Margaret Lange officiating. Interment to follow at the Innisfail Cemetery.
