Ruth HOLLIS

HOLLIS Ruth Lucy (Vlchek) Born June 28, 1927 at Long Branch, Ontario. Passed away at the Red Deer Hospice April 27, 2007. Ruth came to Alberta in 1946. She lived in Owlseye, Lodgepole, Drayton Valley, Lacombe and Red Deer. Predeceased by her parents, three brothers and six sisters. Predeceased by husband Lloyd Hollis in 1988. Ruth was always interested in working with young people. She coached softball for a number of years. She was one of the founders of the Red Deer Canoe Club, competed in and taught canoeing for ten years. She was also very involved in volunteer work, was a Probation Officer, Advisor with the Women's Outreach and other programs in Red Deer and Lacombe. She was instrumental in getting the Victim Services Program in Lacombe operational. Ruth is survived by her son John (Joyce) Vlchek of Prince George, BC. Daughter Sharon (Bill) Edmundson of Red Deer, AB. Also grandchildren Liza (Trevor) Hushagen of Green River, WY, Troy (Amanda) Edmundson of Red Deer, AB, Tanya Vlchek of Vernon, BC and Kurt Vlchek of Prince George, BC. Ruth also had 6 great-grandchildren, Damien and Tyler Hushagen, Kyle Vlchek, William Hanson, Sierra and Nathaniel Edmundson. Niece Joan Collins of London, Ontario along with other nieces and nephews in Ontario. Special friends Irene and Arvid Aasen of Lacombe, Ruth Woods of Logan, UT and Ada of Red Deer, AB. Ruth was cared for by some very special people during her stay at the Red Deer Hospice. There will be a memorial service for Ruth at the Red Deer Hospice Chapel, 99 Arnot Ave, Red Deer on Saturday May 5, 2007 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Ave, Red Deer, AB. A tree will be planted in Ruth's memory at the Red Deer Hospice.
