SAMBROOK

November 10, 2006

SAMBROOK It is with the greatest sadness that the family of Roland (Roly) James Sydney Sambrook announces his passing peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on November 7th, 2006 at the age of 54 years. Roly was born in Edmonton, Alberta on March 26th, 1952. Roly took his schooling, grew up and lived most of his young life in Eckville, Alberta and then for the past 17 years he resided in Olds, Alberta. Upon his completion of high school, he spent a short time in the Military in Eastern Canada before returning to Alberta to work on the drilling rigs. Later he went to work as a side boom operator and worked on many pipeline jobs throughout the greater Alberta area. Roly loved to play guitar and had a natural ear for music. On many occasions, he could be found practicing with his father and on some occasions helping out as a band member. Often you could find him with his guitar around a campfire entertaining all those who cared to listen and when possible he would jump into any jam session without hesitation. He loved camping and fishing and was a superb swimmer. He also had a great sense of humor and there wasn't a day goes by that he didn't make somebody laugh. Even up to his passing, he still had his family and friends laughing with his quirky little sayings. He also loved the game of hockey and a grateful thank you goes out to him from the former Bullets hockey team for all the time spent helping out as a timekeeper at their many home games there in Eckville. It goes without saying that for many years he lived life on the wild side. His life took a turn to the better when in 1991 he met a wonderful woman who eventually became his best friend and wife. A lot of credit goes out to Brenda and her family and friends for their patience and perseverance for guiding him down the right road to success. During this time, Roly could be found helping out on Brenda's dads farm in Sundre. He also took pride in re-storing an older Chevy pick-up truck. Roly was predeceased by his father Julian on May 1996, and his mother Laura on January 2006. Roly leaves to mourn: his wife Brenda, her children Kendra (Ryan), Kim, Brandon all of Olds, Alberta: grandchildren Amelia and Piers, his father in law, Royden Ness of Sundre, sister in law, Linda ( Harold), Kye Wilison of Innisfail, brother in law, Riley, and one brother Bill Sambrook of Kuwait City, Kuwait. One nephew Jason (Cory), Tristan and Dole Martyn of Sundre. He will also be sadly missed by his close friends Don Lazzer of Red Deer, Brian Carritt of Eckville, and James Murdock of Olds. A Public Celebration of Roly's life will be held on Monday, November 13th, 2:00 pm. at the Olds Mountain View Funeral Chapel. If desired Memorial Donations in Roly's honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Palliative Care & Cancer Centre.
