SAVOSTIANIK

Samuel

1925 - 2014

Mr. Samuel 'Sam' Savostianik of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away at the Michener Extendicare Centre, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, August 4, 2014 at the age of 88 years. Sam was born in the Ukraine in 1925 and immigrated to Canada as a small child, with his siblings and parents who bought a homestead in Saskatchewan. In 1951, he married Gladys Poletz and bought a farm in the Queen Mary District in Saskatchewan. Here they raised their five children. Sam farmed until 1979, when he semi-retired and moved to Bentley, Alberta. In 1997, they moved to Red Deer and eventually he moved to the Michener Extendicare Centre, where he resided until his passing. Sam's loves in life were his family, his farm and his sports. He had no greater pride than watching his children play slo-pitch and tried never to miss a son's or grandson's hockey game.
