SAWULA Mr. Stephen Sawula of Red Deer, beloved husband of Heather Sawula passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at the age of 86 years. Stephen was born on Saturday, May 10, 1919 at Gildehurst, Alberta. He married Heather Bartelman on March 10, 1945. This was the beginning of a successful 60-year marriage. From this union came one son and two daughters. Stephen owned and operated his own construction company and left his stamp on many local buildings. He was active in his career and his community. He served as the president of the Alberta Construction Association as well as the president of the Red Deer Lions Club and was a director of Lions International. Stephen generously gave of his time and spirit, contributing his talents to the Red Deer Business Community, Scouts, various Barbershop groups and Knox Presbyterian Church. Stephen and Heather enjoyed twenty-seven winters in Mesa Arizona. Stephen enjoyed golfing, curling and bowling. Above all, he loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His memory will be cherished by his loving wife Heather, his two daughters Heather Ireland (Ron Scheurer) and Shelly MacIntosh as well as by his daughter-in-law Linda Sawula. His memory will be treasured by his five grandchildren: Jean Ireland, Ryan (Carrie) Sawula, Jana (Chris) Good, Sean MacIntosh and Mark MacIntosh. He will be dearly missed by his brother Fred (Fran) Sawula and three sisters: Kate Pasula, Sophie Galenza and Vera Dool as well as by many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends. Stephen was predeceased by his son Bruce as well as by his parents: John and Eva; two brothers: Bill and Andy as well as by his sister, Mary Sych. Funeral Services for the late Mr. Stephen Sawula will be conducted from the Knox Presbyterian Church, 4718 Ross Street, Red Deer, AB at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 with the Reverend Andrew Burnand officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Alto Reste Cemetery.
