SCHRADER

January 29, 2009

SCHRADER It is with great sadness, that the family of Clifford Schrader announce his passing on Sunday, January 25, 2009, in the Rimbey Hospital at the age of 75. Cliff was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Clifford Edwin Schrader was born in Bentley on August 22, 1933. He grew up on a farm 4 miles north of Rimbey with his 2 younger sisters Viola and Shirley. At a young age Cliff worked for McGregor Construction until he was injured in a vehicle accident. Cliff married Evelyn (Vicky) Dentman on July 24, 1954. In 1955, Cliff and Evelyn had their first child, Roxanne. Cliff worked for Colorado Oil and Gas in Drayton Valley and in 1956 a second child was born, Steve. Cliff was transferred to Calgary, so in 1959 the family moved. In 1961 Cliff brought his family back to Rimbey and worked for Chevron Oil at a compressor station east of Rimbey on Highway 53. A second son, Barry, was born in 1962. Cliff bought the BA service station in 1963 from Spen Muddle and owned and operated this station on the east end of Rimbey until 1978. Cliff then started CWS, an oilfield maintenance and construction company as well as cattle farmed on the family farm. He sold CWS in 1984 and went consulting in the oilfield until a knee replacement forced him into semi-retirement. Cliff remained active in retirement by investing and constructing residential and commercial buildings in Rimbey. Cliff also kept busy with other small business ventures. Cliff was a Charter member of the Rimbey Kinsman Club, a K-40 member, a Master Mason in Kitchener Lodge No. 95, a member of the Bentley Elks Lodge, belonged to the Rimbey Chamber of Commerce and served as a director on the East Parkland Development Board for many terms. Cliff's family was always very important to him, both immediate and extended. Many people thought of him as a "second Dad" and looked to him for guidance and support. Cliff valued his many friends as he spent time debating issues or having a game of crib with them. Cliff's passions in his later years were his grandchildren and taking care of the backyard to have his family and friends over. Cliff and Evelyn spent many summer afternoons watching the birds eat from the numerous feeders that Cliff kept filled for them. This past winter, Cliff even purchased a heated dog food dish so his bird friends had water before the snow fell. Cliff is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn, whom he cherished deeply, along with his 3 children; Roxanne (Andy), Steve (Kim) and Barry (Stacy); his beloved grandchildren, Lance (Camilla), Dallas, Shane, Vanessa (Brett), Logan (Amy), Chase and Dawson; and a treasured great-grandson, Drake. He will also be greatly missed by his much loved sisters, Viola (Frank) Schneider and Shirley (Laurie) Olson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. As well, Cliff will be lovingly remembered by his extended clan of Kostenuks, Harabas, Fjellstroms and the numerous special friends he has made over the years. Cliff was predeceased by his parents, Vanessa and Alfred Schrader and a special sister-in-law, Judy. A celebration of Cliff's life will be held at the Rimbey United Church on Sunday, February 1, 2009 at 2 pm. with Reverend Deborah Laing officiating. Internment will follow in the West Haven Cemetery. In memory of Cliff, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the Rimbey United Church or the Rimbey Hospital.
