SCHWARTZ CHRIS

CHRIS SCHWARTZ 1934 - 2006 Chris passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, June 16, 2006. Chris was born on January 21, 1934 at Olds, Alberta. The family then moved to the Penhold for three years and at this time they bought a quarter of land from the C.P.R. just north of Pine Lake. In 1941, Chris along with his parents started playing at dances all over Pine Lake and the Hillsdown Area. He played the guitar, his dad played the fiddle and his mother played the old pump organ. They moved to Red Deer in 1943 where Chris attended classes at the old North School then moved to Michener Hill where he attended the old Castle School beside where Central School is now until 1949. In 1953 Chris started his own business and it was called Schwartz Concrete. Chris and his dad went into partnership a year later. They poured many sidewalks and floor pads all throughout Red Deer. In 1958 he married a Delburne girl, Svea Johnson and they had two children Perry in 1958 and Janice in 1960. In 1961 Chris started working at Intercontinental Packers in maintenance where he worked for 16 years. In 1978 he started working for the Red Deer Public School District #104 where he retired as the maintenance foreman. He truly loved everyday he was with Red Deer Public and missed his work and all the staff he met everyday. Chris had to take an early retirement due to a stroke in 1993 at the age of 59 years. Chris will be sadly missed and remembered by his two children, Perry of Red Deer and Janice of Delburne. He is also survived by his sister, Esther Pohl of Red Deer, his niece, Jackie (Dave) Bellerive of Eckville, his two nephews, Ted (Irene) Pohl of Red Deer and Clarence (Shirley) Pohl of Calgary. Chris was predeceased by his father, Chris Sr. in 1977, his mother, Bertha in 1982 and his brother-in-law, Emanual Pohl in 2003. A Public Graveside Service will be held at the Red Deer Cemetery, Michener Hill on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Chris's honour may be made directly to S.T.A.R.S.
