Scott MURPHY

MURPHY Scott Beverly Murphy of Diamond Valley district passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on July 18, 2005 at the age of 88 years. Scott was born on October 18, 1916 in Regina on his parent’s journey west. He was the second oldest of ten children. The Murphy family arrived in the Eckville region in the spring of 1919, where Scott spent most of his life. During his younger years he worked at sawmills, on thrashing crews and at Nordegg, before proving a homestead in 1935 in the Sheep Valley district. On April 8, 1942 he was united in marriage to Christina Munro making their lifetime home in the Diamond Valley district. Scott took part in many community and church activities, including taking care of the Diamond Valley school and cemetery. Over his sixty years of active farming, from horses to modern machinery, Scott embraced the agricultural way of life. Scott had a wonderful personality and enjoyed visiting and reminiscing with countless lifelong friends. Scott will be lovingly remembered by two sons; Lawrence (Gloria) and Allen (Janice), six grandchildren; Kimberly (Curt), Bradley (Pam), Carmen (Jivat), Melanie, Shannon (Phillip) and Megan, and six great grandsons; Riley, Ashton, Brendan, Ethan, Sasha and Jasper. He is also survived by one brother, James (Joan), two sisters; Barbara Nielsen and Elsie Johanson as well as sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Scott was predeceased by his loving wife, Christina in 1999, two sons in infancy; Hugh and Marvin, his parents; Hugh and Margaret, four brothers; Jack, Jerry, Bob and Keith as well as one brother and one sister in early childhood. Funeral Services will be held at the Memorial Presbyterian Church (5020 – 48 Street, Sylvan Lake) on Monday, July 25, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Bob Wilson and Reverend Sandra Franklin-Law officiating.Interment will follow at the Diamond Valley Cemetery.
