July 18, 1933 – December 30, 2019
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Shirley Alice Hill, on Monday, December 30, 2019 at the age of 86.
Shirley was born in Red Deer, AB, on July 18, 1933 to Percy and Mabel Nash. She spent her childhood on the family farm, attending Crossroads School, and Red Deer Composite High School. Following graduation in 1951, Shirley moved to Calgary to attend business college, and began a career as a geological secretary. In 1960 she met the love of her life, Ronald Hill, and they married later that same year. They started a family, relocated to Montreal in 1962 and returned to Calgary in 1966, where Shirley lived for the rest of her life. Shirley was an avid gardener, animal lover, and a good friend to many. She was cheerful, kind, and had a good sense of humour. Shirley loved being a grandmother, and recently had many visits with her grandchildren over the Christmas holidays. She passed peacefully in her sleep.
Shirley is survived by her children, Dorothy and Grant; son-in-law, Lorne; grandchildren, Elisabeth and Eric; cousin Patricia Riddell, who was like a sister to Shirley; sisters-in-law, Marlene, Melba, Shirley, and Elaine; eight nieces and nephews and their children; and many close friends. Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband Ron (1992) and her brother, B. Grant Nash (2017).
A Celebration of Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 2 pm. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
