Shirley Christine
Shirley Christine Lamb passed away at Red Deer Regional Hospital on Thursday, April 12, 2012 following a short illness after suffering from Alzheimer's Disease for several years. Shirley was born December 12, 1936 in Doncaster, Yorkshire, U.K. the youngest of six children of Frank and Nellie Hather. Shirley obtained her education in Doncaster and while in High School met her life partner, David. Shirley and David were married in 1958 and moved to London where David trained as a physiotherapist with the British Army Medical Corp. During the family's years in London Shirley's three children; Paul, Gabrielle and Adrienne were born. In 1968 the young family emigrated to Canada and lived in Kingston, Ontario. In 1970 the family moved west and settled in Red Deer, Alberta and David went into private physiotherapy practice. Shirley worked with David for many years as the office manager and administrator for Parkland Physiotherapy Clinic and was well known by the patients. During these years, she had the opportunity to travel with David back to the U.K., to Europe and the Far East. After David's passing in 1996 Shirley closed the clinic and retired. Shirley always had an affinity with animals and especially dogs. She was well known as a regular walker in her Anders Park neighbourhood and on the trails at Three Mile Bend with her constant companion, Sam, a Golden Labrador Retriever. Shirley never missed an opportunity during her daily walks to visit with other dog owners walking their pets. Shirley is predeceased by her parents and her five siblings; Noreen, Doris, Marjorie, Betty and Jim. She is survived by her three children; Paul, Gabrielle and Adrienne (Bob) and three grandchildren Sean, Nathan and Chloe. The family would like to express their thanks to Renee White and all the staff at Harmony Care for looking after Shirley during the past three and a half years and also to all the nurses and care workers on Ward 31 at Red Deer Regional Hospital for the care and compassion they showed to Shirley during her passing. The family will hold a private memorial for Shirley at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Shirley's name to the local chapter of the SPCA.
