SIMIERITSCH

January 15, 2008

SIMIERITSCH 1925- 2008 It is with deep sadness that we say farewell to Gertrud "Gertie" Simieritsch (nee Muller), who passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Nursing Home on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the age of 82 years. Gertie was born on April 4, 1925 in Germany. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, great sense of humor, love of nature and gardening and her strength as a person. Gertie was a woman with a pioneer spirit. At her persistence, Gertie and Peter moved to Canada in 1960, where they settled in Manitoba to raise their children and provide a better life than they could have possible had in Germany, which was accomplished through courage, hard work and dedication. Gertie was mostly a homemaker but also worked outside the home as a nursing aid, a cleaner and a caregiver. Life was always busy for Gertie, whether she was growing the biggest tomatoes you ever saw, chasing her pigs from the highway or milking the cow. Gertie's later years were spent in Alberta where she slowed down her pace and enjoyed retirement with Peter engaging in ventures like fishing, boating, traveling and spending time with her ever growing family. She struggled with health issues for many years but always maintained her strength and perseverance to get through the hard times and enjoy the good moments. We love you mom and miss you very much. Gertie will be sadly missed by her beloved husband of 59 years, Peter Simieritsch; they were nicknamed the sweethearts of the Red Deer Nursing Home. She will also be greatly missed by her son, Bernard "Bernie" (Alexis) Simiertisch of Alabama, two daughters, Waltraud "Wallie" Simiertisch (Mike Seelye) of Nova Scotia, Mariana (Ralph) Jaffray of Alberta, seven grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Sabrina, Robert, David, Craig, Sandy, twelve great grandchildren, a sister and numerous other relatives in Germany. Gertie was predeceased by three brothers and a sister in Germany. A Memorial Service will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820-45 Street, Red Deer on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded to the family at www.eventidefuneralchapels.com Service and Cremation Providers: EVENTIDE FUNERAL CHAPELS 4820 – 45th Street, Red Deer.
