SIRRS 1948 -2009 The honorable Justice Douglas Albert "Doug" Sirrs, beloved husband of Mrs. Janet Sirrs of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away unexpectedly at Edmonton, Alberta on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the age of 61 years. Doug was born on February 5, 1948 at Unity, Saskatchewan. He was passionate, principled, with a strong sense of community. Doug graduated from the university of Saskatchewan with degrees in commerce and Law. He was called to the Alberta Bar in 1973. He practiced law in Wetaskiwin, Alberta and was an active member of the Wetaskiwin community for 27 years, appointed to the Court of Queen's Bench in 1999 and moved to Red Deer, Alberta. He enjoyed golf, skiing, reading, politics, gardening, and spending his summers with his family at Atton's Lake. Beside his loving wife Janet: Doug is survived by two daughters, Megan (Kevin) Young of Edmonton, Alberta and Andrea Sirrs of Toronto, Ontario; a son, Eric (Erin) Sirrs of Edmonton, Alberta; three grandchildren, Aidan and Cameron Young of Edmonton, Alberta and Gavin Sirrs of Edmonton, Alberta; two brothers, Jack Sirrs of Calgary, Alberta and Jim (Hope) Sirrs of Kimberly, British Columbia; a sister, Trudy Paisley of Calgary, Alberta; a brother in law, John (Margaret) Scratch of Ottawa, Ontario; two aunts, Gladys and Mary Sirrs of Unity, Saskatchewan and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Douglas was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Maisie Sirrs. A memorial service will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820 - 45 Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, February 23rd, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation entrusted to the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer.
